At 2:29 p.m., the Chester County 9-1-1 Center began receiving multiple calls of a fire at the Old Forge Crossing Condominium complex on N. Valley Forge Rd. in Tredyffrin Township.

Berwyn units, along with Radnor and Paoli fire companies were dispatched to respond. After additional reports of a confirmed fire were received, resources from the Malvern and Valley Forge fire companies were also requested.

Berwyn Engine 2-2 made a quick response from the Glenhardie area, after clearing another emergency on Stephens Drive.

Assistant Chief Brazunas arrived on location and reported fire showing from the 2nd floor of a two story apartment building. Due to the quick work of Berwyn firefighters, Berwyn fire police and the Tredyffrin Twp. Police Dept., a total of (4) occupants and (2) cats were safely evacuated from neighboring units. The unit where the fire started was not occupied at the time.

The crew of Engine 2-2 made an aggressive interior attack and found fire involving one room that was beginning to extend into the attic and adjoining living room. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes of dispatch. The efficient effort of the first in crew and subsequent assistance from all fire companies involved saved this building from a catastrophic fire loss.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. No civilians were injured at this fire.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating this incident which does not appear to be suspicious. Damage was estimated at $145,000 by the Chester County Fire Marshal. All units were clear of the scene by 6 p.m.

NOTE: All of the Old Forge Crossing Condominium units underwent an extensive fire wall project a few years ago. This also made a huge difference and aided the efforts of firefighters at the scene. This life safety initiative paid off!
