The men and women of the Berwyn Fire Company continue to be recognized by the Chester County EMS Council for a number of major accomplishments. Below is a list of recent award winners!
Meritorious Service Award - 2011
Firefighter/EMT Nam Truong received the Meritorious Service Award for his long time dedication to EMS and many years of excellent leadership at Berwyn. Nam is a twenty year member and served as an EMS Officer for over half of his career with Berwyn. While serving in the role of EMS Captain, Nam was instrumental in developing Berwyn's Advanced Life Support (ALS) program. Today, Berwyn is one of only five fire-based ALS services in Chester County!
ALS Practitioner of the Year Award - 2011
Firefighter/Paramedic Patrick Boyle received the ALS Practitioner of the Year Award. This award is given to a Chester County ALS provider that possesses clinical, operational and leadership skills that are above and beyond the skills of typical providers. Pat has been with Berwyn as a full time career staff member for five years. Pat also serves the residents of the Chester County as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Malvern Fire Company and as a Captain with the Lionville Fire Company.
Distinguished Provider Award - 2009
Berwyn Fire Company EMT Linda DiMartini was awarded this honor as a member of the Chester County emergency services community who has positively impacted the service or community through longevity of exceptional service. Linda was the first Life EMS Member at Berwyn who marked 20 active years of service in 2009.
Distinguished Service Award - 2009
The Berwyn Fire Company was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented to one service each year which has made major contributions to the residents of Chester County. Berwyn, which provides coverage to large portions of Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships, is one of the busiest services in the County and continues to strive for excellence with an active, well-trained base of volunteers and career staff.
Clinical Save Award - 2009
Six Berwyn paramedics and two EMTs were recognized for the Clinical Save Award. In the summer of 2008, this crew was presented with a patient who had no pulses and was not breathing after suffering a cardiac arrest. Through various procedures, the crew was able to regain pulses on the patient and also spontaneous respirations prior to arrival at the hospital. The patient was able to walk out of the hospital less than a month later with no significant deficit. The crew consisted of Paramedics Chris McDonald, Ted Brawn, Pat Boyle, Tom Spurlock, and Bryan Nagle along with EMTs William King and Jon Recchi.
These awards show a true commitment to excellence by the members of the Berwyn Fire Company in continuing to serve the community. These accomplishments were the product of the long hours and hard-work put in by each and every member of Berwyn in creating an organization that provides a high level care to the community.
