The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to Rt. 202 Northbound prior to Chesterbrook Blvd. in Tredyffrin Township for a motor vehicle collision at 11:01 a.m. This was one of several crashes in the area following the first major snow event of the new year. The crew of Engine 2-2 arrived on the scene and reported a two-vehicle collision with a mini-van off the roadway. It was determined that 5 subjects would need transport to the hospital. Additional ambulances were called from the Paoli Fire Company and the East Whiteland Volunteer Fire Association to assist. As Fire/EMS crews were preparing to clear the scene, an SUV traveling in the Northbound lanes lost control and struck a Tredyffrin Township Police Dept. cruiser narrowly missing Berwyn firefighters. It was quickly determined that 4 subjects from the SUV and the Officer required transport to the hospital. Berwyn responded to the scene with 3 ambulances and an additional ambulance was requested from Lafayette Ambulance based in Upper Merion Twp. In all 10 individuals were taken to area hospitals as a result of these two separate collisions. Final units from Berwyn cleared the scene before 1 p.m. The roadway was intermintenly closed several times by PENNDOT and Berwyn/Paoli Fire Police as crews operated on the scene. Thankfully the Officer involved in the crash was not seriously injured and was released from the hospital after being evaluated. This incident serves as a reminder to all motorists to slow down and use extra caution when you come upon emergency vehicles or PENNDOT trucks on the highway. |
