Berwyn Firefighters Extinguish Fire at PECO Facility in Tredyffrin Twp.

BERWYN, PA - The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 3:50 p.m. to the Berwyn PECO Fleet Maintenance Facility located in the 1000 block of W. Swedesford Rd. in Tredyffrin Township for a trash fire.

Berwyn Engine 2-3 arrived on scene with a column of black smoke coming from a fenced in storage area. After a scene size-up multiple electrical transformers, electrical conduit and wooden pallets were found burning and extending to other nearby materials. Incident command was transferred from Engine 2-3 to Lt. 2A (Eric Javie) upon his arrival.

Firefighters worked quickly to control the fire, while a crew from Engine 2-1 established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. Additional action was taken to limit the water runoff to nearby storm drains with absorbent pads and oil dry.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection was notified, while an environmental team from PECO responded to deal with the cleanup.

A total of 4 paid personnel and 9 volunteers responded to this incident. All first responders cleared the scene by 5:45 p.m.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office and Tredyffrin Township Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire. No first responder or civilian injuries were reported.
