EASTTOWN TWP., PA - On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 10:46 p.m. for a house fire in the 300 block of Old Lancaster Road in the Devon section of Easttown Township. Mutual aid from the Radnor and Paoli fire companies was also requested to assist. At the same time this incident occurred, Berwyn EMS was handling a medical emergency in the Glenhardie section of Tredyffrin Township.
Based on a 9-1-1 report of a resident possibly trapped, a working fire dispatch was requested. This brought additional resources from the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company and Malvern Fire Company EMS to the scene.
Upon arrival of the crew of Berwyn Engine 2-3, fire and smoke was visible from a single family residence with all occupants safely evacuated. Firefighters quickly deployed a hoseline to contain the fire that had started in a 2nd floor bedroom.
Firefighters had to contend with a snow covered roof and hoarder conditions inside the residence to extinguish the fire. The fire was placed under control by Berwyn Chief Eamon Brazunas at 11:17 p.m.
The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated and ruled the fire accidental. The total fire loss was estimated at $115,000. There was no reported firefighter or civilian injuries.
Firefighters also assisted the homeowners with gathering personal items, medications and family pets. All fire/EMS units cleared the scene before 2:00 a.m. The Easttown Township Police Department provided scene control and marked a nearby fire hydrant. PECO also responded and ensured the power was secured to the residence.
This fire was yet another great example of the regional coordination that occurs during incidents such as this. |
