BERWYN, PA – In cooperation with the Old Forge Crossing Condominium Association, the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors, and the Easttown Township Board of Supervisors, the Berwyn Fire Company officially opened an emergency medical services (EMS) substation located at the Old Forge Crossing Condominiums in the Devon section of Tredyffrin Township today.
During the development of a 5-year community driven strategic plan last year, community representatives identified concerns revolving around staffing and response times. In addition, the Berwyn Fire Company has previously performed analysis with the assistance of the Chester County Department of Emergency Services to identify the optimal locations to place resources to improve response times based on several important factors.
This station will be staffed with an advanced life support equipped ambulance during weekdays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. This is a peak timeframe for call volume in the area and will lend itself to improve response times in the community. The ambulance will also be equipped with an auto-extrication tool, self-contained breathing apparatus, and a light compliment of other fire/rescue equipment.
The Chester County Department of Emergency Services was instrumental with setting up emergency communications and performed an inspection of the EMS station for compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health - Bureau of EMS.
The station is centrally located in the area served by the Berwyn Fire Company, close to the intersection of Valley Forge Road and Swedesford Road, which will be primarily focused on serving the residents and businesses in and around the northern portion of the coverage area in Tredyffrin Township that includes Old Forge Crossing, Chesterbrook, Glenhardie and the Swedesford corridor. This action will also help to balance resources and personnel between Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships in delivering effective emergency services.
The opening of this station will have a positive impact on the emergency services delivery model in the community. The Berwyn Fire Company looks forward to continuing to work with our partners to expand hours of coverage.
The volunteers and career staff of the Berwyn Fire Company are committed to providing timely and effective response to fire, medical, and rescue emergencies to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships in accordance with nationally recognized and professional standards.
Thank you to the Old Forge Crossing Condominium Board of Directors and the Township Supervisor Fire Company Liaisons of Tredyffrin and Easttown for their support of this initiative. And a special thanks to the following vendors that donated services/supplies or discounted services to get the substation up and running:
