BERWYN, PA - The Berwyn Fire Company will be taking part in a preparedness exercise on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Valley Forge Middle School located in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County. Since this location falls within the area protected by the Berwyn Fire Company, volunteers and career staff must be trained to support operations if the need should ever arise.
The exercise will focus on the support of emergency worker monitoring/decontamination in the event of an incident at the Limerick Generating Station in Montgomery County, PA. Firefighters and EMS personnel are utilized outside the emergency planning zone to assist first responders in the affected area.
The exercise itself will only involve the usage of a portion of the parking lot at the school. First responders will practice with using specialized radiation monitoring equipment and will go through the process of setting up a decontamination station during the exercise.
FEMA and PEMA evaluators will observe the exercise to ensure personnel are following best practices and procedures.
The Chester County Department of Emergency Services and Chester County Hazardous Materials Team will also be present for this important exercise. Thank you to the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District for their continued support of first responders and the safety of the T-E community.
