BERWYN, PA - Berwyn Fire Company volunteers and career staff have responded to 13 calls in the T-E community today. This included several medical emergencies, a couple brush fires, a motor vehicle collision and an electrical fire outside.

Earlier this afternoon at 1:02 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to the 1600 block of Stephens Dr. in Tredyffrin Township for a brush fire. Firefighters arrived with a fire in the rear yard caused by power lines that were struck by a fallen tree. PECO was called to the scene and the fire was safely extinguished. As the incident was being mitigated, an EMS crew was treating a diabetic patient in the 200 block of Lancaster Ave. in Easttown Township.

Due to high winds across the region today, there have been a number of electrical problems causing fires and power outages. If at any time you see downed power lines on fire or arching, or suspect an unsafe electric condition; please leave the area immediately and then call 9-1-1 and PECO at 1-800-841-4141. DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 to tell them your power is out. This is not an emergency!

Always assume power lines are live. This applies to power lines on utility poles as well as those entering your home or buildings. Even momentary contact can injure or kill. Even though you may notice a covering on a line, NEVER assume it is safe to touch. Stay Away, Stay Alive!
