BERWYN, PA - After attending the Radnor Township Memorial Day Parade today, the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 12 Noon for a building fire in the 400 block of Lancaster Avenue in Easttown Township.
The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-3 arrived within 4 minutes of dispatch with smoke and fire showing from the roof area of an auto dealership. Due to solar panels on the roof, firefighters had to use extra caution as they prepared to extinguish the flames. Mutual aid from Radnor and Paoli arrived quickly to establish water supply from nearby fire hydrants.
The building was evacuated due to concerns of collapse in a portion of the building. Once all firefighters were accounted for a safe zone was established. Multiple agencies worked together to bring the fire under control just past 1 p.m.
Lancaster Avenue (Rt. 30) was shut down between Waterloo Road and Midland Avenue during the fire with the help of the Easttown Township Police Department and Tredyffrin Township Police Department.
The Chester County Department of Emergency Services Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The scene was cleared by 2:30 p.m. There were no reported first responder or civilian injuries.
