BERWYN, PA - As the recipient of donations and public funds from the T-E community, it is important for the Berwyn Fire Company to share its annual audit reports.
The Berwyn Fire Company had been using Barbacane, Thornton & Company as its independent auditing firm for several years. This was done intentionally, as this is the firm that performs audits for Tredyffrin Township. The intent was to continue the goal of 100% fiscal responsibility and transparency. This was also an established goal of the Berwyn Fire Company 2018-2023 Strategic Plan.
The Berwyn Fire Company was informed by Barbacane that they could not complete the 2022 audit due to a staffing shortage. After reviewing options, a decision was made by the Board of Directors to utilize Maillie. This is the firm that had previously performed audit reports for Easttown Township.
Maillie has completed their first audit with Berwyn Fire Company and the Berwyn Fire Company Volunteer Relief Association. Their management letter and audit reports are included as PDFs below for the 2022 calendar year.
The first audit under a new auditor is typically the most comprehensive audit as the auditor is closely examining policies and procedures to ensure there are no inherited issues. This includes financial controls and oversight practices. Of note, the only concern was that Berwyn Fire Company dropped below its minimum reserve threshold. This threshold was an agreed upon level with Berwyn’s membership as well as the Townships.
To that end, it is important to highlight that there were no negative findings or recommendations for changes that came from this audit.
