BERWYN, PA - On Wednesday, May 1st, the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 5:29 p.m. for a house fire in the area of Sugartown Rd. and Leopard Rd. in the Berwyn section of Easttown Township. Mutual aid resources from the Paoli Fire Company and Newtown Square Fire Company (Rapid Intervention Team) were also requested.

First arriving firefighters encountered fire and smoke showing from a large tudor style home. The crews of Berwyn Engine 2-1, Berwyn Engine 2-3 and Paoli Tower 3 began an interior fire attack, established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant and started placing ground ladders.

Firefighters had difficulty accessing fire in concealed void spaces, along with contending with plaster and lath in walls and ceilings. Power lines also fell to the ground limiting operations on the one side of the structure.

Additional support was requested at the scene from the Radnor Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company No. 2 (Air Unit), Broomall Fire Company, Phoenixville Fire Department (Rapid Intervention Team), Rocky Run Fire Company and Good Fellowship Ambulance (Rehab Unit).

During the fire, the West Whiteland Fire Company, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company and West End EMS provided standby coverage in the greater T-E area. A gas leak inside a home on Bair Rd. in Tredyffrin Township and medical call on Drummers Ln. in Tredyffrin Township were handled by the standby crews.

No first responder or civilian injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshals Office.

All emergency vehicles and personnel cleared the scene by 10:30 p.m. Sugartown Rd. was closed between Leopard Rd. and Lenape Dr. during the incident.

The Easttown Township Police Department, Easttown Township Public Works Department, American Red Cross, PECO Gas & Electric and Belfor Property Restoration also provided essential services.
