BERWYN, PA – The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 10:43 a.m. to a house fire at 400 Leopard Road in Easttown Township. Automatic mutual aid units from the Paoli Fire Company and Newtown Square Fire Company were also requested to respond.

Prior to this incident occurring, Berwyn EMS was finishing up a medical call in the 1000 block of Old Cassatt Road in Tredyffrin Township at 10:13 a.m. and Berwyn firefighters were investigating a commercial fire alarm activation at 400 W. Swedesford Road in Tredyffrin Township at 10:25 a.m.

Firefighters and police officers arrived to find a well-advanced fire involving a large tudor-style house that was the site of a significant fire on May 1, 2024. Due to the known poor conditions of the inside of the structure from the previous fire, a quick decision was made to not have firefighters enter it.

Additional resources were also summoned from the Radnor Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, Goshen Fire Company, East Whiteland Fire Company, Good Will Fire Company No. 2 of West Chester and Good Fellowship Ambulance of West Chester.

There were no first responder injuries reported. However, one civilian was transported with minor injuries by ambulance to Paoli Hospital.

Sugartown Road will remain closed between Leopard Road and Lenape Road as emergency crews continue to operate over the next several hours.

The Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company, West Whiteland Fire Company and Uwchlan Ambulance Corps provided standby coverage as personnel (volunteers and career staff) and resources were committed to the fire scene.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office and Easttown Township Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire. No further comment will be provided at this time due to the investigation being undertaken by law enforcement.
