BERWYN, PA - On Saturday, January 18th at 9:32 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched for a chimney fire on Cabot Drive in the Chesterbrook section of Tredyffrin Township.
A minute prior to this call, Berwyn EMS was dispatched to a medical call in the 1200 block of Old Eagle School Road in Tredyffrin Township.
Based on 9-1-1 caller reports, the chimney fire was upgraded to a house fire due to flames showing. This added mutual aid resources from the Paoli Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company, East Whiteland Fire Company and the air unit from Goodwill Fire Company No. 2.
Berwyn Deputy 2 arrived on scene and reported a 3 story end of the row townhome with fire involving the chimney stack. The Tredyffrin Township Police Department worked on alerting adjoining residents to the fire.
Firefighters with Berwyn Engine 2-3 quickly extinguished the visible fire, while other crews from Berwyn, Paoli, Malvern and East Whiteland opened up exterior and interior walls where the fire had spread.
The fire damage was contained to areas in and around the chimney stack, with smoke damage throughout the home. The immediate adjoining unit suffered no damage.
While there were no civilian injuries, a firefighter was evaluated by EMS after being struck by falling debris.
The Chester County Fire Marshal, Tredyffrin Township Fire Marshal, Tredyffrin Township Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator, PECO and Belfor Property Restoration also assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire was accidental in nature. All personnel and resources were clear of the incident scene by 12:30 a.m. |
