BERWYN, PA - On Wednesday, February 26th at 1:07 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company, along with automatic mutual aid from the Radnor Fire Company and Newtown Square Fire Company, was dispatched for an apartment fire at Stonegate at Devon Apartment Homes in Tredyffrin Township.
Berwyn Assistant Chief 2 arrived on scene of a 3-story apartment building with smoke emanating from a 3rd floor unit balcony. Radnor Chief 15 established incident command and requested a working fire dispatch. This re-alerted Berwyn and Radnor fire companies and added an air unit from the Gladwyne Fire Company, the Chester County Fire Marshals Office, the Tredyffrin Township Fire Marshal and PECO utilities.
Officers of the Tredyffrin Township and Easttown Township Police Departments assisted with alerting residents in the building of the fire as firefighters made their way into the building.
Firefighters with Berwyn Engine 2-3 and Engine 2-2 quickly extinguished the visible fire, while other crews from Radnor and Newtown Square opened up interior walls to check for hidden pockets of fire and cleared smoke from the building.
The major fire damage was contained to the single unit, with light smoke damage in the common hallway. A unit below where the fire started suffered some minor water damage.
Fortunately, there were no reported civilian injuries or first responder injuries. The cause of the fire was accidental in nature. All personnel and resources were clear of the incident scene by 3:00 p.m. |
