BERWYN, PA – On Monday, August 10th at 10:11 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company and mutual aid resources were dispatched to the 200 block of Radcliffe Road in Tredyffrin Township for a house fire. The initial 9-1-1 callers indicated fire in the garage and explosions occurring.

First arriving units encountered fire and smoke from the front of a single-family dwelling. It was quickly confirmed that the two occupants of the home safely escaped.

Firefighters from Berwyn Squad 102 and Radnor Quint 15 deployed hoselines to start extinguishing the fire. Berwyn Engine 2 secured a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant as their crew assisted with the fire attack.

Additional personnel from the Berwyn Fire Company, Radnor Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company and Gladwyne Fire Company (SCBA Air Unit) performed various fireground tasks.

As the West Whiteland Fire Company was responding to cover the area for other calls, they were redirected to the fire scene. The Newtown Square Fire Company was then called to provide standby coverage.

The fire was declared under control at 10:41 p.m. by Berwyn Chief Joshua Lichman. A total of 52 personnel (volunteers and career staff) operated on the scene.

The Chester County Fire Marshals Office investigated the cause of the fire. The fire was determined to be accidental due to an electrical issue. The home suffered significant damage, but due to the diligent efforts of firefighters many personal belongings and other items were saved.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department and Tredyffrin Township Fire Marshal (Barry Isett & Associates), along with PECO and Belfor Property Restoration provided services during this incident.
